Time-frequency projection filters and time-frequency signal expansions

چکیده
We consider the problems of designing a linear, time-varying filter with a specified " time-frequency (TF) pass region " and of constructing an orthonormal basis for the parsimonious expansion of signals located in a given TF support region. These problems of TF filtering and TF signal expunsion are reduced to the problem of designing a " TF subspace, " i.e., a linear signal space comprising all signals located in a given TF region. Specifically, the TF filter is taken to be the orthogonal projection operator on the TF subspace. We present an optimum design of TF subspaces that is based on the Wigner distribution of a linear signal space that was recently introduced and is an extension of the well-known signal synthesis problem. The optimum TF subspace is shown to be an " eigenspace " of the TF region, and some properties of eigenspaces are discussed. The performance of TF projection filters and TF signal expansions is studied both analytically and via computer simulation.

Application of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation
Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...
متن کاملLow latency IIR digital filter design by using metaheuristic optimization algorithms
Filters are particularly important class of LTI systems. Digital filters have great impact on modern signal processing due to their programmability, reusability, and capacity to reduce noise to a satisfactory level. From the past few decades, IIR digital filter design is an important research field. Design of an IIR digital filter with desired specifications leads to a no convex optimization pr...
متن کاملTime-frequency formulation, design, and implementation of time-varying optimal filters for signal estimation
This paper presents a time–frequency framework for optimal linear filters (signal estimators) in nonstationary environments. We develop time–frequency formulations for the optimal linear filter (time-varying Wiener filter) and the optimal linear time-varying filter under a projection side constraint. These time–frequency formulations extend the simple and intuitive spectral representations that...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...
متن کاملPathologies cardiac discrimination using the Fast Fourir Transform (FFT) The short time Fourier transforms (STFT) and the Wigner distribution (WD)
This paper is concerned with a synthesis study of the fast Fourier transform (FFT), the short time Fourier transform (STFT and the Wigner distribution (WD) in analysing the phonocardiogram signal (PCG) or heart cardiac sounds. The FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) can provide a basic understanding of the frequency contents of the heart sounds. The STFT is obtained by calculating the Fourier tran...
